depends on when he was killed, a corpse starts to smell when it starts to decompose which is 24-72 hours postmortem if he died sometime late the night before, he shouldn't smell yet, there should only be a strong smell of iron as blood starts to oxidization.

And its like extremely cold the the decomposing rate should be getting slower since freezing a body or putting it in water kind of stops it/slows it way down
