Ash was in love with Nick (Kyle's omega), thats why he accepted the meetings with Karlyle on Nick's favor. But I also read spoilers that he starts getting over his feelings after he gets to know Karlyle.
Also yes they will part ways before the last week of their meeting, and Karlyle will get engaged with an omega, but he would still ended up with Ash who'd finally realise his feelings toward Lyle after they 'broke up'.
Also: Ash actually had someone that he can't forget since 6 years ago-- the guy that he kissed on the new year's eve. But he didn't realise it was Lyle because he couldn't see his face, he only knew that it was an alpha-- that's why he wanted to try to help Karlyle despite knowing that he's an alpha.
If anyone remember the dog on Author's Note (chap 23.5) that's the dog that they adopted after they live together.
TL;DR fasten your seatbelts, there will be lots of turbulences but we're going for a happy ending ?
