It does make sense. Especially if you lived in those times where status was everything and very few people marrued for love and more for what benefited them at that time. And if you didn't have the status and reputable honor to influence people to respect you then love was bullshit. But since you don't live in those times it doesn't quite make sense to you. Back then a person's status could eiyher save you or kill you depending how it was used. And what could live do for you when paired up against people with high status who saw people without it as scum and unimportant. Look at Raymond's father for example. All the money and "love" could not save him from dying. So, with all the context given in the stort I understand where he is coming from now more than I ever did before. I feel really bad for Ian and sure ge probably does deserve someone better than Ramond but I understand where Ramond is coming from.
