I don't understand, after he obviously survived the accident if he wanted to open new chapter in his he didn't need to play dead, he could have easily shut them out of his life.
But to go as far as changing his name and let the police believe he is dead all this effort just to go and work as an actor! Naturally someone will recognize him sooner or later, whay even bother. What's the point
It's like having a secret so important to keep than post it in thick line in the first page of the most popular newspaper (bear my outdated comparison)

iam also confusion.
I have read this part of the novel. So basically he became an actor to help the tour guide (the one who actually died in the accident) reach his dream to become an actor and act alongside the tour guide's idol and for people to remember him by and help pay for and take care of the tour guide's grandma.
Like penance? In a way because the tour guide would not have died if he did not chose that scenic spot? 😅😢

I don't think he planned it obviously they thought the corpse was his because it had his watch and ID and so I think he woke up after his cemetery and found out he was dead apparently so decided to continue playing it
