Why are People acting like Neil is the only one who can feel bad here

he feels that he was mentally and emotionally manipulated
I don't blame him for saying what he said and I probably would say the same in this situation
I'd be defeated
and while do understand Neil's trauma
it doesn't apply to this situation as seamlessly as people think it does but it could also be that the author wants Neil to think it applies to this situation

How does it not make sense his uncle or whoever it was that hit him put this thing on his mind that you can't make excuse for your actions and you can't explain your actions or it is an excuse and you will be punished and I will not believe you excuse that is the whole situation that is going on right now he feels that he can't explain why he took the money because it is an excuse. His reactions and him not telling Dustin the truth are valid and do make sense because trauma appears in different way and times.
@Very angry person BUT Dustin doesn't understand that nor does he know how Neils feeling as well
