TBH I can see why she was so upset Dietrich gave up his knighthood in his past life. Without that title there was no way he could have saved her through marriage, since he became a commoner. And then when they tried to run anyway, they got caught.

Yeah it looks like she was hoping to marry Dietrich because he loved her, and his title as a knight could have kept her safe from her family's influence. Ok theory time; I think these memories are from Dietrich's past life. I think Charlotte was the lady, and that she has been cursed to stay trapped in the mansion by her Step brother, who is oddly obsessed with her. In order to stop herself from getting married, I'd bet she kissed step bro at her debutante to convince him not to let her get married to the old guy who was 20 yrs her senior, since as she said he was given the family's powers. (Ofc I still don't know the timeline of stuff that happened, but I know by that point her step bro was named heir and that he was the one who ruined the painter's life since Charlotte had a crush on him.) Then she met Dietrich in his past life and fell in love with him.

(Here's where I'm getting into no evidence land) I'm guessing the step bro finds out they're courting and becomes outraged (cause he is obsessed) and forces Charlotte to become a maid for the household after her father dies and he takes over the title. Then, because Dietrich and Charlotte don't give up their relationship, Step brother finds a way to curse Charlotte to stay in the mansion, undying and unable to leave, and kills Dietrich for trying to save her (I mean he already tried doing that again on the second floor, there's no way he hasn't killed Dietrich before for being to close to Charlotte if they were involved in Dietrich's past life.)

I also wonder if Dietrich is so impacted by killing because he remembers the killing he did in his past life as a knight, subconsciously. It would be like double the trauma :'(

Ok here's my theory. I think the Young Master did something to put Muni in a coma (trapping him in a pit or well to drown?) when they were both alive in the past, then regretted it.

MC is Muni reincarnated, but the ritual that was done had the Shaman lady pour the blood of the serpent monster into his mouth. Because Muni and the Young Master's souls were tied to paper, known to be fragile/intangible, their bond was not strong enough to bring Muni back from the coma. Instead, the soul of the serpent monster possessed Muni's body and became Muni. This is why he has the weird long neck thing going on, and why he insisted HE is Muni.

Meanwhile, the real Muni's soul was ousted and reincarnated into MC. The Young Master didn't know the serpent had taken over Muni's body and that's why he hates Muni now.

Young Master's soul is bound to fake Muni's by the bookmark, and somehow Manager got his hands on it and uses the Young Master's soul to get hoes? (Not sure how that all happened but based on the earlier chapters it seemed like he was aware he was possessed by the Young Master.)
