Michele is only given a distorted and partial version of truth as to why Ain lied to him but he accepts him as he is and they live "happily" ever after( SPOILER: spoiler The North is no less cruel than South. Ain was born a bas**** of the original Lord Shelleg and his Southern mother who was fooled into thinking this man would marry her for he took her virginity and gave her a baby. Not realizing by logic and later by denial that she has been taken advantage of . So when she keels herself Ain is left destitute in a society which reviles and takes advantage of his bas**** status, enslaving and making him a sexual slave. Things also don't change when he was taken to South where he was enslaved by ANATOLD family before Michele was born,because original Lord Anatold didn't want to cause scandal by taking a mistress so he took a Northman as slave and his sons also abused Ain. Ain believes himself to be a monster and he intended to take Michele's family title and use his name to take up lands and infiltrate Southern region. His plan was to kill Michele after he was practically "sold" to keep the Anatold family running by Michele's second oldest brother. 
Both society of elites are so horrible, but Ain protects Michele by hiding most of it from him. He never discloses about the sexual abuse and slavery his own family inflicted on him or even the Northern ones because he thinks if he knew he would kill himself and he wants Michele to kill him rather than do that and they live peacefully as much as they can - I only read until the 3rd AU of novel. There are two more AUs released this year but I haven't read it yet but overall this is the vibe of the story)

Mingwa didn't write Dan like someone who has no choice but do what he did and cry and scream like he has been wronged- DAN THINKS THAT WAY. Kim Dan is such a mentally retarded fu** up that he used to be more stressed about s** with Jaekyung than about the fact loan shark were about to ra** him and beat him up. If that wasn't the story giving a GIANT CLUE what a mentally ill ret*** he is I don't know what is/( and then act surprised when Dan is trying to commit suicide and is confirmed as an alcoholic before he even met Jaekyung...the clues were in first 10 chapters when in Dan's recollection of his own house he magically has less bottle of Alcohol than the ones in JJK's)

  The fact he is in shock and cannot accept that his 80 year old grandmaa could possibly die at her ripe old age and took on a treatment he cannot possibly pay-which doctors said is NOT GUARANTEED would work- was story telling you that your POV character is mentally not sane. NEVER HAS BEEN.
So when he bursts into tears over s** he said he would give over money HE NEGOTIATED over situation Jaekyung didn't make( did he give Halmoni cancer or invented his bankruptcy!?) fools like you would rather act like no way this guy is acting like a victim of this one guy because he is objectively thinking this way.

Dan indeed had a lot of choice beside working for s** for JJK- we see it in season 2 when he suddenly had to live without him, he suddenly had loads of ideas on how to get his life on track- leave city, accept Halmoni won't be cured by any random treatment anyone promises, pay to work and pay off debt. Its difficult but not unlivable and no need to have s** with anyone. He could have done solo cam shows ( THIS IS BJ Alex universo bruh) but he won't because like its clear- he is sexually repressed maladjusted man who never learned how to live his life without co depending on some other person.

Mingwa even spelled it out for you and everyone when she had Grandmaa talk about how her grandson has been a goatheaded alchoholic who avoids mental health treatment like a plague ( clued in chapter 11 when Dan 's memory only contains 5 bottles of alcohol and his home looks neater compared to JJK's objective view of his home where its littered with 7 bottles of actual alcohol he drank with very few bottles of water)

( spoiler* he was drunk and Heesung took him to his place, telling him its invitation for Ramen, which 19 year old naive boy believed it to be literal. Then he jumped him which he was too drunk to deny coherently. Next morning he thinks its his fault for what happened and Heesung exploits that to propose he become his fu** buddy, to "take responsibility" because ofc he is that kind of a cad, a man who has been accessory to cheating partners in the past*end spoiler*)
