@I LOVE FEMBOYS Mb if you felt offended by me bringing your race into this, but the reason why I brought it up is because you of all people should know why this manhwa is considered offensive. I wouldn't hate you if you were a white person, I'd just be less surprised since most white people aren't oppressed so they can't really understand why people are taking this situation so seriously. And from what I've seen, most of the people defending this aren't poc. I'm not sure about you, but how would your people feel if someone decided to write a romantic series where the trope is colonizer x colonized? In no way would that feel great, it would feel insulting. Also, I'm pretty sure most of the "backlash" they got is from people outside of their country, I firmly believe if they continued with their series, it would still gain quite the audience especially among Koreans so I don't think it's a forced apology. The fact that the ml considers himself a "slave" to the mc is enough to realize why this this is wrong. And yes, master and slave tropes can appear in different stories but the context also matters. BDSM is about consent, not about how one race is more superior than the other. Comparing that to such a big issue that lasted for centuries is revolting. Mind you slavery still exists. R*e has already been romanticized and normalized in the bl community, and the next thing you guys want to normalize is slavery. Like genuinely be for real. Fiction does affect reality when real life events are being depicted.

@I LOVE FEMBOYS I do admit it's only the first chapter we can't judge too much, but the author should've expected the concerns the last panel specifically would have. I'm not even African American, just a poc but even that panel made me upset. And I wouldn't be too surprised if you were a European or white American defending this but to be a south Indian defending this feels wrong. I think the author should've released 5 chapters or more so people could see how exactly the story would go but there isn't any way you can defend the owner x slave trope whatsoever. And the wording on the last panel like I said, was really iffy. I don't think jaxx is completely a bad person, I'm sure they didn't mean much harm, but you can't deny their ignorance. Jaxx, themselves admitted to their mistakes and completely acknowledged the fact that they didn't do enough research on this.

@Anonofurbusiness Exactly! The author was held accountable for all the right reasons. If viewing your concerns for a piece of media that's clearly pushing out harmful ideologies is considered harassment then were genuinely doomed. Obviously in no way should they receive threats of any kind, but people have to realize most authors are grown adults, we should stop babying them.

@I LOVE FEMBOYS I feel like you're also missing the point. Unlike this series, Alien stage is purely fictional. Certain things happening in it can be applied to real life instances but in no way has it ever romanticized the whole owner x slave trope. Certain topics need a lot of research and you have to be extremely mindful about how you portray them in your series which the author failed to do so. It's not hard to see why the first chapter rubbed people the wrong way. It's not about why you can't talk about certain topics, it's about how you depict such topics. Slavery itself is an extremely sensitive topic, so to make a whole manhwa between an owner and their slave is offensive in many levels.

@Teaju Exactly! People are forgetting the author herself cancelled her series because unlike other authors who romanticize r*e, she at least had the decency to acknowledge the fact as to why this series is offensive.

@KKKK probably because it had the dog scene before the editing of the novel. It did have the dog scene, but the editor for the novel probably removed it considering just how disgusting and brutal that is. Not only is it besti***** but animal cruelity.

@Yanaki I do admit my original comment was harsh, I was definitely being an ass**** so I do rlly apologize for that, but I disagree, I feel if one is reading something they should be allowed to talk about their opinions. And I definitely do think you can't judge someone for the type of fiction they read, nor is it something to dislike them for and slander them. (as long as it's not overly problematic like involving young children) And yes, like I mentioned in my older comment, human perception is different for everyone, even the worst type of fiction can be good to some, and the best type of fiction can be bad to some. For me personally, this manhwa still has its issue, and overall not something I can consider good. Also, both characters are wrong, no matter who you pick, morally you're still in the wrong. Although I admit the way emotions were portrayed in the manhwa (especially the novel) was incredible.

@the. big bad wolf It's alway the same thing, "oh well it's dark romance, if you hate it that much why are you reading it" blah blah blah, as if people can't give criticism to a manhwa they're reading. Plus manhwas with psychological themes and dark romance don't need r4p3 scenes. Olgami (not rlly bl) is a good example of a dark romance manhwa that has a lot of toxicity without the story having any kind of r4p3 scenes.

@Bellekim fr, anytime I think a manhwa won't have a r4p3 scene, it has one. I don't mind it when it's used to talk about a character's trauma and the distress it cause (like in litc) but if it's added in the manhwa for gooning purposes or as a shock factor, I incredibly dislike it. Really have no idea how someone can call a piece of fiction good when it has such unnecessary themes, people will call that shi good all because it's "psychological"
