he's alive, he put something under his shirt so when shell shot him there  he wouldn't get hurt, he faked his death. The humans were mad at the vampires bc of the whole attack that Jack the Ripper and Humpty Dumpty caused, so they were going to fight resulting in more deaths. Eric took the blame, saying he caused the deaths and the bank explosion so that the people would think he caused everything. When he faked his death, the people thought that the threat was gone and that it wasn't the vampires fault, it was Eric's
