it's because it's totally rushed, the novel is way more detailed. So many sub-plot got deleted. It's been a while since I felt they were trying to rush the ending...
They cut so much from the novel :/ the whole arc Cayena vs Friedrick (or whatever his name), the human trafficking, the way he discovered she was a witch, the power play, the emperor wanting Cayena's magic, and why are they trying to give Rezef a redemption wtf?
Because it's not love, it's more like obsession. He was used to get everything he wanted since from birth, and suddenly someone keeps refusing him and defying him. He's the son of THE emperor and THE empress so of course he's very greedy, he wants what he can't have. And there's also his inferiority complex towards Perez, why would Perez gets things he doesn't have? So this is not love

No he's not, in the novel it's stated more than once that the Emperor only care about himself and power. Even in the manwha he said himself he doesn't care about his children (minus his mistress's son), he just hate Rezef more because he's a bas****.

In the novel if I remember right, he wanted Cayena's power to become immortal and keep the throne to himself, even if she had to die. But the manwha doesn't really follow the novel anymore, so it probably won't be the same
