Oh my gosh. You were being literal. I read this thinking you were speaking figuratively.

To anyone reading this. NO. It is a LITERAL PARASITE that either comes out of her mouth or her no-no zones 😟😭🥀

@Insight  Honestly your responses come across as performative.

When you know something is bad and being normalised you are meant to speak up. Whether that be racism, apartheid, abuse, forced arranged marriages, etc.

Just because it didn't hurt you personally doesn't make it any less wrong. Saying anything will not lead to any changes but it is the start of change. But that I get help and that I stop having weak mentality?

How about you stop with your blatant support of something that you know is wrong.

You say you pity the ignorant. That you want me to educate myself and grow, but when the same is said about artist making racist depictions it's cricket sounds.

"People like you who are weak minded and want conflict ..." No. Me saying, I don't appreciate minstrel shows as representation is not the reason why you are facing more discrimination. The issue is that people are upset with their comfort being questioned and are kicking up a hissy fit.

Also is this not YOU mischaracterising Chinese people as "weak and needing protection" while being ignorant?
It's "Oh but it's normal for them... They don't know any better"

You don't want people like me to speak up because you are comfortable with this normalisation. (And you are because you are supporting this modern depiction)

But, oh well. Because at the end of the day it doesn't change the fact that this was a racist representation of a coloured person

So, thank you for your suggestions. They were not appreciated. Now here is my suggestion for you.

Take your novella of a comment, your performative bullshit take on ignorance and the racist art you are willing to die on a hill for, and fu** off.

Happy reading I guess.

@Insight Excuse me but "Considering the fact that my ethnicity is the one being 'offended' and that I don't feel offended in the least" So what???

Just because you aren't offended doesn't mean I (who is also a person of colour) can't be.

"only pity for the ignorant" but instead of pointing out when is something is wrong you make excuses. How does that help the ignorant?

"it doesn't seem as offensive as you're claiming" To you. I feel offended. And yet you want to minimise the fact.

"it has since become a staple ..." Just because something is common does not make it right.

"This type of depiction for people of color dates back long before this author even considered using it, ..."

Yes. In the past. Like how minstrel shows were used... In the past. This is now. We KNOW that stuff wasn't okay. That is just saying 'Oh but we did that before so it's cool'

"Modern usage simply implies ignorance of changing times ..." Again they have been exposed to that media and the reaction of people to it.

Ignorance is no excuse for complacency.

"Using what is seen as the norm in your country isn't "racist" if you don't even understand the nuance behind it" I'm sorry, but what???

Treating someone differently based on their ethnicity, origin, skin colour or whatever does not need to have background and nuance to be called racist.

"They likely didn't 'go out of their way' to draw the character like this" Yes. They did. When drawing and designing characters references are used. They saw these depictions and chose to design their character like this.

You said you are not offended as a person of colour and you seem content with normalising this portrayal of coloured people then fine.

But I am not.

@Insight Sorry but what does identifying a person's origin have to do with the way people or colour are drawn?

Also it isn't a knowledge thing. It is a common sense thing. There are also racist depictions and stereotypes of Asian people.

It is a well known fact that in Asia dark skin is considered undesirable. Asians can also have darker skin tone including Chinese people.

So it doesn't even matter if the character is African, Caribbean, etc.

They still went out of their way to draw them like this.

Stop making excuses. It's offensive.

No seriously. He is very da** handsy while not even being in a relationship with her. I keep holding out hoping the mc will do more but so far the only thing she has accomplished without his help was framing the maid and that was like 16 chapters ago...

The "Slavery isn't evil" comment has made me feel sickened by the MC.

That being said by someone who comes from a world that does everything in its power to abolish slavery.

From someone who did not have to live through it in their previous life or feel the generational impact of it.

From someone reincarnated into a place of privlage.

He is just like all the others that support the most heinous acts as long as it benefits them.

He isn't someone I would want to support either.
