ahh look at at that. everything is much worse than when they started. atleast back then, they have a bit of civility. now, its just...ugly.
and here i was having hope that maybe, just maybe..the future is looking brighter and that some compromise can be made. but nope. now, even hye-rang's softness towards yeonjo is gone and we're seeing outright r*pe. sigh.
and how did you know this? did you perhaps read the novel? i have the official translation but its only up until book 2 which is around the time before she collapsed.
i want both of them to be happy but no matter how i imagine the ending of this manhwa, i just dont see it having a happy ending.
yeonjo would and could never give up his revenge, it would destroy him inside if he ever decides to. and hee ryang cant afford to concede to yeonjo because he has too many duties and lives depending on him, even if he truly fell for him.
not to mention that this timeline is from where m/m is not legal. add to that their currentpower imbalance, and even if yeonjo miraculously gets his noble status back, the history between them is just too blo*** and bitter. this would probably be a reincarnated ending where they can let go of their past hurts and burden but still...
when did my boy become a poet?? 😩
*insert meme*
..now you got your degree 🥹
couldn't agree more. drama, seggs, and trauma sells. i rarely see bl's not using this recipe. even the greenest flag top would still abuse bot, one way or another. but hey, its all forgiven coz it was done because of love!!
and if you ever see a bl that doesn't have that theme, it almost always doesn't sell.
debt or no debt, let's be for real. no one can deny the royal family. especially since he's practically the king while his nephew's still learning the ropes. at this point, i wouldn't even be surprised if he had something to do with the former king's death. or planning his nephew's if there's no other heir and he's next in line
a man who has played the political game since his childhood saying that men are not chess pieces? puhleezzz 🙄
i personally dont see it as a sob story. i feel like sob stories are used as an excuse for a character to be terrible. like seungho from painter of the night.
heeryang is not terrible, not really. he doesn't force anyone to do his bidding. even with yeonjo, he gave him choices. i mean, sure the choices are sh!t but its not like he can also do much considering that he was following orders as well. but he never denied the bad things that he did, nor did he use his past as an excuse for his terrible actions. he doesn't do pity parties, i'll give him that lol
agree on the mom. no evil schemes or underhanded tactics which is the usual plot for "evil" step parents. just a mother helplessly watching her son being surpassed by the proof of her husband's disloyalty. and she has to swallow all the shame and resentment as a woman in that time period is expected to do. you cant help but sympathize tbf. should've smothered the philandering husband instead lol
to me, hee-ryang is green flag. one of the greenest despite the brutalities life has given to him tbf.
- he's a good follower (despite the atrocities he committed, he did it knowing it is expected of him) and leader (he stood up for what he did and never denied them, even what he did to yeonjo)
- he knows how to treat people fairly (look how loyal his followers are to him, even urging him to shun yeonjo to protect him)
- he is not a cruel master and he does not abuse his authority (even to yeonjo)
- he is generous in bed (even before yeonjo, he does not r@pe and does not only take but also gives, not a starfish and does almost all the work, and does not humiliate or demean partners)
- not excessive or arrogant (he lives simply and does not over indulge like how the other degeneratelords are)
- humble and self aware (he acknowledges his beginnings and strove to be better yet does not lord it over to others)
not to mention his looks, brains, and (now seeing his dreary past) his heart. he could've been bitter, mean, and terrible but he surpassed that all. i feel sad knowing that he will eventually learn yeonjo's plans.
i refuse to believe this clown is a professional athlete. avoiding therapy just so he wont look weak, knowing that the injury can be debilitating if left unattended and being in tiptop shape is a must in his profession. and also knowing that he's still young and he would want to stay in sports for a long time still. acting like he's invincible just coz he kept winning to the point of pointless arrogance. talk about biting off your nose to spite your face. 🙄
but what can we expect from someone who engages in rigorous seggs before a match when he's supposed to be resting just because he believes he has a jinx. nahh..redemption arc or not, i find that he's just too unbearably arrogant and needlessly cruel to people around him. its not even a smug arrogance,
we carry the trauma of past manhwas 😂 we know these are red flags for the heavy angst to come 😀
they're both victims of circumstances, i agree.
but i dont think they are in love. not yet, anyway. hee-ryang is really infatuated to yeonjo from the very beginning. he even looks for him in his previous lovers. and he's very open with the possibilities of keeping yeonjo with him. while yeonjo is blinded by his thirst for revenge that i think even if he feels something towards hee-ryang, he will justify and deny it. falling for hee-ryang means letting go of the past and forgiving him. and in essence, i feel like he will feel that he "betrayed" his family if he falls in love with the "enemy" so he will deny and evade as much as he can. no one is at fault but they will both surely suffer. not to mention that even if they get past those feelings, their stations in life are too different to be able to live in harmony
we might have a bittersweet ending here like in the manhwa 'taming the tiger' where they only found happiness in a different timeline with their life starting in a clean slate.
tbh, i dont consider hee-ryang to be red flag (maybe beige at most?). he was just doing his job (and its not like he has a choice either) and his tactics to keep his subjects in line is also not done out of malice but simply a lord being strict and vigilant. he was also quite gentle and generous with yeonjo (given the circumstances). he is not overly cruel nor does he actively seek to torture or play with yeonjo's feelings/dignity despite the upper hand of his station. h
in here we can even see that despite his gut instinct telling him that something is going on, he still entertains the idea that his mistrust might hurt yeonjo and he wants to give him a chance to earn that trust.
