@excaliburjak The Church has made serious mistakes, but reducing 2,000 years of history to "nothing but ra** and plunder" is inaccurate: it has also preserved knowledge, founded hospitals, and established universities. Like Islam (with its conquests as well as its scientific golden age), Buddhism (with its peace as well as violence in Sri Lanka and Myanmar), or political atheism (with its emancipatory ideals as well as deadly totalitarian regimes), no major human institution is perfect. All carry both shadows and lights. To generalize is to ignore the complexity of historyNever underestimate the greatness of human history. Get some knowledge.
@King reader 1 you are correct..., it IS inaccurate. why would you say that? not only did you say: nothing but ra** and plunder ...which is completely wrong, because they have done other things besides ra** and plunder you also put that phrase in quotation marks, as if you were quoting someone ...this is also completely wrong, because NO ONE in this chat said "nothing but ra** and plunder", except you.
perhaps the words i used caused some confusion? allow me to say it a different way: ...at different points in the past, and even up to today, the church has rap** and pillaged
@excaliburjak Now it's clearer 🙂. The Catholic Church's historical involvement in conflicts like the Crusades and Inquisition has given way to contemporary scandals centered on sexual abuse and institutional cover-ups. Documented cases, such as France's 330,000 estimated victims since 1950 and Pennsylvania's report of over 1,000 victims, highlight the scale of the modern crisis. In response, the Vatican has initiated data collection efforts by directing national bishops' conferences to conduct inquiries. This shift toward quantifying the problem represents a new institutional approach, though whether it will lead to systemic reform remains an open question. Well, I'm only here for the data record 😌
