To be perfectly frank, the events you describe here aren't any better...Quite the opposite, even. Only the fact killeon is the one to execute her, has some appeal. But how he magically changes course all of a sudden is just sloppy AF. Last minute resolution while going for the slash? Nah, why not have g** himself descend from the sky while you're at it? And from previous comments on previous chapters pointing out the differences with the novels, I guess his behaviour in the novel is pretty much always flickery like that. At least in this adaption his behaviour is coherent.
Also..The fact she accepted and wished for death only after torture, as if to put an end to the actual suffering, is also lame. (gore for the sake of it doesn't make a story good.) She just chooses to runaway, like any weakminded person would in such circumstances. Here, the psychology leading her to 'coldly' come to this conclusion, not only is more badass, it is also more meaningful in the sense she wasn't just beated up half dead on repeat until her mind broke, this is a decision and resolve. The only black spot in this aspect of the story is the fact she never worded it out clearly, it just got offscreened even from herself. It would've been a better scene to see her get on her knees there and proclaiming she accepts death. (maybe even better with some cool phrasing about honor of something) The shock value, the reaction from the audience including the duke himself.. That could have been a tactful turning point for her being spared instead of this nonsense from the tomboyish princess.
