I don't think it's lack of interest, it's the realization they made an absolute incompatibile pairing, but still stick to the delusion of the regular "happy ending".

And since any change on MC that makes him deep dive being more and more mazochistic in order of that "happy ending" would justmean his traumas are ruining him, the only solution remains that ML sadistic tenencies magically disappears, which is... well, would be equally terrible from the other side of the spectrum.

They should have just break up, that would be the only logical and desirable outcme of this. to learn where their borders and red lines are, and realize they're not compatible, but with this new knowledge, they can find their right persons in their next relationship. TRHAT would be a real happy ending.

Sad, the author didn't dare to risk the BL rule of endigs. :really sad. :(

@Nickname Well, it's not just that. Initial disinterest led to a domino effect of flaws (if we want to identify them; nonetheless, we are not aiming to undermine the author but to evaluate their work). There could be many reasons why they put this story aside, and we can't judge the person—maybe they were sick, had a family member die, or something tragic happened around them. Otherwise, it would have done something to make our diva MC stronger or tried to punish everyone who did wrong to him (or at least I hope 😅).
Their pairing can be compatible with communication—a lot of communication (if we want to keep "the rule of endings"—yet, a separation would have been worse for MC since he already sees himself at the lowest point; another abandonment would have killed him for good). Even if words alone can't fix everything, I have no doubt that ML—big jackass that he is—could have helped MC. In my opinion, the only thing that could have pulled MC out of his dark past was therapy in conjunction with ML's support, given his level of depression. The story would have been half saved, at least, if this had been the last part.
This "ending" is rushed and leaves a lot of things hanging. Still, I appreciate that the author gave MC a happy ending, in their own way.
