Don't like and Hate are two different meanings. Some people don't like gay people but still they respect them and don't hate them. But haters say hateful/weird things and don't respect them.

I don't like small tops doesn't sound weird because I don't mean to disrespect them. It is like I don't like Black and white stories but I still read them if I found a good one. Because I don't hate it completely. It is totally okay to not like to someone or something.

yes they are two different meanings for don't like /hate.
but wording can still go a long way. Cause then ok are you saying that you don't like " in real life gay men and women that are short tops " ? Cause u saying u don't like short tops can come across as a general statement, that's why gay ppl would find it weird if it were to come from a straight person or even a girl that's not straight in general and she's were to just see two gay men find out that one is a short top or even be reading a bl and then they say that they don't like short tops as a girl when bl is portraying the relationship of two men not women so them not liking a short top in a gay relationship that's two men and they are a girl that's werid cause in the first place topping and bottoming for specifically gay men doesn't exist for them to enjoy watching/reading or thinking abt what those irl gay men s** life is like. So for them to say "they don't like short tops" that can come across as them not liking a short tops in general as a girl towards gay men when it has nothing to do with them. That's why I would ask to know, and if they just mean watching/reading then I could understand because that's fine everyone likes a certain dynamic that they enjoy, However from the time they also talk abt how they don't like this certain person asd a short top ( they are literally talking abt a gay man ) that is werid. Cause they don't exist for girls. So yes, yes it is weird when they also mean irl. That's why when they don't mention the reading or watching part I ask and often times they mean gay ppl irl too

if a man w that's gay were to tell mar or say they don't  like big bottoms/short tops that's understandable even as a general statement, because they are gay themselves and it has to do with them in real life asd to their type and stuff so if they don't mention the reading/watching part that fine.
Same goes for three gay girl abt women and if she likes ba doesn't like someone that's a short top/tall bottom..When she's talking abt a woman.
But when it's a qu*** relationship and the opposite gender is reading/watching it and or seeing an irl couple, you have to remember that our relationships are often stereotyped by straight ppl. And they tell us we can't be this way if we don't act this way/look this way. So if I saw a girl tell me that they don't like short tops when they saw my partner it's weird cause why do I need their approval, same goes for why I would think that if a girl is reading bl ..& they say the same i & others would think that they also don't like seeing irl dynamics that are not stereotypical...
while I understand that u may not like reading/watching short tops and that's fine. Even if u didn't word it in that way.. the reason why I would talk abt it is cause when it's worded a certain way I would ask. Cause often times those ppl who word it that way also don't like irl gay relationships that have nothing to do with them cause they are the opposite gender. While yes i understand not liking reading/watching gay qu*** relationships with a certain dynamic that's fine. But if a person were to make the general statement that seems as if they don't like all short tops, it wouldn't be weird if ou were to assume that they don't like irl tops that look like that and they are saying this as a girl.
