That's the gimmick author chose to enable his lame storytelling skills to write some "original" sh**. There's no way in he** people skilled in anything would mistreat their tools provider, especially if they're really skilled too.
These days it's like "" authors "" need to come up with the most absurd situations to write anything even a little bit original.
Although it isn't so bad, it can serve as cautionary tales.
