Considering this is meant to be a period piece, it was not strange for it to be a clear sign of roles back then. It's not all that strange now though. Even Greeks and Romans did it and tended to treat their male partners as 'wives' rather than (husbands). It is more a definition of role play sexually, but not meant to be literal. A lot of things like this can be lost in translation, because anything besides being a top and doing manly things in bedmeant you were basically a woman🤷‍♀️
