Yvonne is shocked that she ran away but hopes she will be happy with Paul. The duke is friendly to her but wonders whether he mentioned that she had ran away with the stable boy. He can't see any falsehood in her eyes and thinks that this nerves are sharp because of Derek. As he looks down at the tea he notices there is no reflection in Yvonne's cup. He looks at his own tea as sees his reflection and recalls Penelope's warning to look at her tea cup when he's with her.
