@Not ur type. About FL's background..i don't think there was any thing more than her being from slums through out the story...but in one of the side stories in novel..

(from what I remember) A mermaid saves a Lil boy..with time they become close friends..and one day.. the boy confesses his love to her, wants her to come with him...the mermaid shares the same feelings and asked him that in return for leaving her eternal ocean she wants his everything...wealth, dignity..etc...The boy agrees.
(sorry, but don't remember further details) (It's total anomalous story...i don't wanna conclude anything from this...but just "maybe" our fl really was a mermaid...and it seems both the boy(ml) and fl doesn't remember anything from past)
