I see your point but as someone that read the novel please have faith in her, she has been a prisoner in her home for all her life and a year has not even passed since she arrived in anatole. It is not because she doesn't scream that she lacks determination, not evrybody has the same needs and personality. She will find and do great for herself. HAVE FAITH !

And please take into accounts her environment, we are between the end of Middle age and the Renaissance time and husbands could divorce their wife for every "good" reason like miscariage. Moreover, nobody told her she had one but her monster of a father so who should she trust ?

Once again making mistakes is human but the fact that she tries again is what shows her determination. For example languages, magic, castle management, stammer all that she has improved in LESS than a year.

@Mina I don't know how the author plays out her character development in the next few chapters. She indeed grows up in a horrible environment but she did lived a good life with riftan and its people. I don't belittle her grief on the loss of her child. She needs to grieve , but after that what's left for her? Is she going to wallow in sorrow and live her life drowning with it? She needs a will and determination to live, without it feels like living awaiting death.
@Mina and my first comment only applies to this chapter not on the whole story
