Well do you guys remember someone telling that when the dragon came to this land before he started making the kingdom of Archaia, it was said that he bought a few people with him who were really loyal to him? I feel like Cardinal or whoever he actually is was one of those people that came with Jack and then fell in love love with Ian in his previous life and his obsession still continues. Obviously he couldn't have him in his previous life because Ian was the dragons lover.

so is jack the dragon? They say he is half dragon and ian is the dragon knight. Still a lot I don't know
Jack is the white dragon, I think that was already confirmed in the previous chapters. If the theory here is correct, then Cardinal Brixton is probably about a few hundred years old as well? Since he mentioned before that Ian was the reason Derwin was built.
