Comment on ChapterMiss Pendleton - Chapter 19
This isn't the first time I've thought this, but this guy is going from "in love" to obsessed. It's those freaking lines, "even if it I get despised". He's not thinking of the fl, he's only thinking of himself now. This is the second time where he's playing out these scenarios in his head of what she'll do and sometimes it has a favorable outcome. Dude, she's her own person, stop running scenarios.

Also, he's so disconnected. He's been so wrapped up and protected by his own status and social standing that he literally can't imagine why she would find her own struggles in status a problem. He's supposed to be her friend, but even the Lacey(I think that's her name) girl understands it more than he does.

Also, the fl is thinking ahead. The prejudice she faces from her social standing will follow her children if she has any. She doesn't want them to go through what she has. Freaking Dalton is thinking short-term, and can't seem to take a step back, and see things from her perspective.

He's definitely been so much better than most mls, but he still needs to get his sh*t together.

@R yea, that's a good point. Though I think this particular trait was a little predictable given how firmly he believes in passion and love in marriage. But Laura is aware of the practicality that needs to be thought out before deciding on marriage. Frankly speaking, from his thoughts and their conversation on the boat, I think it clear they're not on the same page, and that's a big problem
@R I agree he's a bit overly enthusiastic at the moment but it is his first time being in love so I'm giving some grace, and for the most part he's been concious of his actions and words towards everyone trying to be a gentleman. Im sure when they get to speak on why she's rejecting him he'll take a step back, although she will lie and say she has no affection towards him. We also know Laura actually likes him and wasn't being honest with herself until recently, and because of her fear about her social standing, future children and ridicule her husband will get she won't allow herself to even dream of having a family. Honestly I enjoy these two together and hope Ian can make Laura see she shouldn't be ashamed and look for happiness. Again im not saying not being married wont bring her happiness but from the last chapters we know Laura has smothered her own self and wishes to conform to society and be accepted by them to a certain extent.
