@Prinzinc Oh, okay. If you don't like tone-policing, then I'll be very straightforward with you. Having opinions and your own way of thinking is completely fine. You might be right, you might be wrong, you might be making a perfectly logical argument, or you might not be. That's your opinion, and you're free to have it. You can criticize whoever you want, and I'm not here to police what you're allowed to think or say.
What I didn't like was the way you generalized your opinion. You weren't simply saying ‘this is how I see it’ or ‘this is what I think.’ You were talking about what men think, what women think, and what the majority of men supposedly want, as though your personal perspective represents an entire gender. That's the part that didn't sit right with me. I don't think any of us can speak for an entire population based solely on our own experiences and assumptions.
And honestly, I don't really care that you don't care about making strangers on the internet comfortable. You're not obligated to care, and I'm not asking you to change your personality or censor yourself for me. If you want to be the person who says exactly what he thinks and doesn't care how anyone receives it, that's completely your choice. But I'm equally entitled to say that I didn't appreciate the way you expressed those opinions. That's not me policing your tone. That's me expressing my own opinion about your comment.
And unlike you, I'm not going to turn around and say ‘this is what all women think’ or ‘this is what everyone should think.’ I'm saying simply: this is how your comment came across to me, and I didn't like it. I stand by that. You don't have to agree with me, just as I don't have to agree with you.
So yes, you can have your opinions. You can stand by them. You can even believe they're obviously true. But other people are allowed to question them, disagree with them, and tell you when they think you've crossed a line. That's not censorship, and it's not tone-policing. It's literally just another person on the internet exercising the exact same freedom you're claiming for yourself.
