Ch. 115

Eh... author, I really don't think we want "Miley Cyrus" to be interested in the MC romantically.  She's massively damaged goods and we actually like the MC.

No, I mean she's totally a fully functional and an amazing choice for the MC... pffft.

Only women think that Miley is attractive to men because they think that since they are looking for a mate who is accomplished and rich that men must be picking women using the same criteria. However, men don't pick women for those reasons and Miley is far outside of the criteria that the majority of men will use for picking a woman for a serious relationship.

She's like most women in Hollywood.  A massively damaged, high maintenance, narcissist who can't maintain the most superficial relationships even when their life/fame depend on it.  In particular, she's currently literally tattooed in massive red flags that scream to most men to stay away from her.  Some men might be interested in her for a one-night-stand but I can't think of a single man I know who would actually be interested in her for a relationship.

@Prinzinc you're right on the note that we don't want romantic tension in between them. This story have been about the misunderstandings of woojin's life and basically focuses on acting. Miley cara is amazing and I don't think I want that changed. They can stay close friends as I think miley would be an amazing friend who's an extrovert, dragging woojin who's kind of an introvert when it comes to telling the truth lol ,he lives on misunderstandings

@Omniscient Reader

Agreed.
Also, there are some really good choices for a romantic interest back in Korea that are far better.

@Prinzinc oh, what an interesting opinion you had here. Good read, yet you fail to follow through with the counterpart to your hypothesis making this just... an opinion-a shallow one though

@Prinzinc Just to clarify, who exactly are you referring to here, Miley Cara, the fictional character from the story, or Miley Cyrus, the actual person? I noticed you wrote Miley Cyrus in your first comment, so I just want to make sure that wasn't a typo.......

It's obvious that real world characters are being reflected in this story. They aren't the exact same person but they are somewhat the same person.

I don't have as big of an issue with a random character being hooked up with the MC, but if that character is essentially based off of Miley Cyrus then it makes a difference, yes? Miley Cyrus has a lot of baggage and Miley Cara who is obviously based off of Miley Cyrus may also be walking around with much the same baggage considering that the author is basing one off of the other.

If the author wants to take an entire left-hand turn and significantly divorce the connection between Miley Cara and Miley Cyrus, then although I still think that the MC has better options for a romantic interest in Korea, I am no so much against it anymore.

@Prinzinc I understand your point about Miley Cara being inspired by Miley Cyrus, and I can see why that connection would matter to you when considering the character. I just wanted to say that I found some parts of your original comment a little uncomfortable. It's completely fine if those are your personal opinions about Miley Cyrus, and you're entitled to feel however you feel about her. What stood out to me, though, was the way you seemed to frame those opinions as what ‘men’ generally think, or as though women are all viewing relationships through the same lens. I don't think any one person's preferences can really represent an entire gender.
More than anything, though, I feel like bringing a real person so heavily into a discussion that's supposed to be about fictional characters takes away from the whole point of the community. We're here to discuss the story, the characters, their relationships, and whether we want certain romantic dynamics. If the character is inspired by a real person, that's an interesting observation, but treating the two as essentially the same person and then bringing all those real-life judgments into the discussion kind of changes the atmosphere completely. It just feels unnecessary when we could simply discuss the fictional character on her own terms.
That's honestly my main concern here. You can dislike someone, disagree with their choices, or even have a very negative opinion of them. That's your prerogative. I just think there's a difference between expressing your own opinion and speaking about people as though your assumptions represent everyone else's perspective. And especially when we're discussing someone who isn't even part of the conversation, I personally think a little basic respect goes a long way.

Tone policing doesn't make a "comfortable community" either. Also, I wasn't the one who made the connection with a real world person, the author did. Just as importantly, my generalizations are generally true and you disliking them doesn't make them false.

If you have something to contribute beyond pearl clutching and tone policing, I am all here for it. Other than that, I couldn't care less about what makes some random stranger on the internet comfortable and I certainly won't participate in tone policing or self-censorship when my statements are both obviously true and their validity is only challenged not on the facts but on how comfortable it makes other people feel.
