@Tyrus I half agree x.O; the "deeper plot" is only half thought out. What they are calling "g**" is definitely not a standard definition of "g**" which just makes things confusing. It's better not to add in too much depth right off the start and, instead, to sprinkle it in as it's needed.
Amatuer authors commonly think "the audiance won't understand if I don't spell it out for them." However, it's actually better to give them bits and pieces that finally lead to the answer through the Chekov's Gun method.
