Raymond blows up the dorm when vacations start to kill the boys but he didn't know that carl stays back. He found out when they published names of the dead people on the news.. after that if a 5 year leap when things take a turn and the boys he thought were dead, come back except for hugh (hugh dies for real, the rest 3 got out) and they captured him again and oh boy the torture he goes through again makes him loose his willpower, he literally wants to be killed but they won't allow it.
