@Angel dust so... As a fellow doctor, I'd say, say hi and chat in person. Most of the time, students aren't very online or on social media, and if he's so focused on his assignments, he's probably using the time to study other things (I used to be like that, and still am). So it's better to talk to him in person and maybe ask him a question about something he's studying.
