Maybe you know and acknowledge that slavery existed, but from what you're saying, it doesn't look like you understand it's impact or why people are angry (when they have a right to be). and yes actually! I have NO idea what the author was thinking when they were writing this. what made them think this was okay to write about? what makes YOU think this is okay to write about? Because it's fictional? Even though fictional stories a lot of times reflect real life?
