@Prinzinc I understand your point about Miley Cara being inspired by Miley Cyrus, and I can see why that connection would matter to you when considering the character. I just wanted to say that I found some parts of your original comment a little uncomfortable. It's completely fine if those are your personal opinions about Miley Cyrus, and you're entitled to feel however you feel about her. What stood out to me, though, was the way you seemed to frame those opinions as what ‘men’ generally think, or as though women are all viewing relationships through the same lens. I don't think any one person's preferences can really represent an entire gender.
More than anything, though, I feel like bringing a real person so heavily into a discussion that's supposed to be about fictional characters takes away from the whole point of the community. We're here to discuss the story, the characters, their relationships, and whether we want certain romantic dynamics. If the character is inspired by a real person, that's an interesting observation, but treating the two as essentially the same person and then bringing all those real-life judgments into the discussion kind of changes the atmosphere completely. It just feels unnecessary when we could simply discuss the fictional character on her own terms.
That's honestly my main concern here. You can dislike someone, disagree with their choices, or even have a very negative opinion of them. That's your prerogative. I just think there's a difference between expressing your own opinion and speaking about people as though your assumptions represent everyone else's perspective. And especially when we're discussing someone who isn't even part of the conversation, I personally think a little basic respect goes a long way.

A heart full of stories, collecting stories the way others collect memories.

Tone policing doesn't make a "comfortable community" either. Also, I wasn't the one who made the connection with a real world person, the author did. Just as importantly, my generalizations are generally true and you disliking them doesn't make them false.

If you have something to contribute beyond pearl clutching and tone policing, I am all here for it. Other than that, I couldn't care less about what makes some random stranger on the internet comfortable and I certainly won't participate in tone policing or self-censorship when my statements are both obviously true and their validity is only challenged not on the facts but on how comfortable it makes other people feel.
