Because if the first speaking monster he finds and befriends is a cool actual wolf creature the author would actually have to commit to his premise that the MC hates humans due to trauma instead of just making this slop where the MC is upset at humanity for the deeds of his father while completely ignoring the monsters all doing much worse on a daily basis.
At some point we'll get some stupid "actually the kingdom is the real monster" moment in the story and suddenly the monsters all being violent is ok and cool for the MC who's traumatized by violence and abuse.
