Riftan really needs to communicate his feelings better with Maxi. I get that he went through a traumatic experience by having almost lost his wife and all but the way he says things so ambiguously, throwing things around and screaming to make a point is just hurtful for both of them.
What makes it more painful is the fact that he didn't even show up in the end knowing she would have wanted to see him one last time before leaving .
@Ilovemanhwaslikethat no I can assure you he is the one she can see the back of is armor until they reach the end of Eth Elen. You can see his black horse from different chapters
@Biscottine Sorry to disappoint but that is not him. In the novel, she is clinging to the back of the carriage trying to catch a glimpse of him but he never appeared.
After Riftan left the tent that had Maxi, he stays by the tent outside. Hebaron comes to ask after Maxi and tries to tell Riftan to go with Maxi to the capital and that he can handle the straddlers (monsters). Riftan then tell him that they should leave immediately. When Hebaron tries again, Riftan cuts him off and walks to Talon (his warhorse), mounts the beast and goes away. He was still moping, internally, over the fact that he had made Maxi his wife and, in so doing, had only brought misfortune to her which he had always "carried" with him. Riftan really didn't see her off to the capital. Not a glance, not a moment on a hill looking at her carriage go. Just nothing. That's the sad truth of this brief separation. It was a necessary evil.
@Biscottine it is not there in the novel. The artist did their own thing. I've read that book countless times. He doesn't escort her. But, hey, if it's according to the adaptation, I suppose he did. But in the original works he doesnt
