There are only 4 possible theory causes of this. In my theory, the other one was natural disease called leprosy which is common in medieval period which is incurable at that time. The second was she have an autoimmune skin disease which when expose to sunlight it irritate her skin and which drastically worsen her condition. And third was she have a natural magic phenomena physical disease, ill summarize it in yin and yang term. my theory is that it's showing a yin imbalance like a magic inbalance where yin dominate her body which is bad and the solution is yang which is good, so the goal is to bring back yang energy to balance the yin helping her body healed or balanced. To put it simply she may have magic imbalance like cold dominate inside her so the solution is heat. The fourth one was she was cursed by magic
