I was really hoping that princess would just leave those two alone.. but even in future coming chapters she would resolve some issues by separating these two. It wasn't out of any hatred or jealousy, instead princess considers maxi her friend. But her solutions always involve them separating.
Moreover I felt sad for our male lead because he had to live in worry and later away from maxi, just because of maxi's dumb decisions of always demanding something she wants purely for herself and not considering how he would feel. She followed him in a very dangerous expedition just because she wanted to, later she got into school just because she wanted to.. and it was a years long separation. In short I was pis*** at princess for her weird solutions and also maxi for always being ready to do whatever she wanted to do and testing our male lead's patience... 

But maxi wanted to learn magic and wanted to be even a tiny bit useful and make herself feel more prouder and confident and secure as riftan wife, I think the princess helped her w self development, riftan just kept maxi back in the face of protecting her, but maxi needed to come out of her shell
