Xielian doesn't attack him with fangxin the sword. He sneaks Ruoye and tangles him in it telling him something around the lines,
"I'm teaching you a new lesson now that's your older. You would have been dead. That’s right, I ambushed you. So what? I succeeded. Yes, I was cunning, but so what? I won. If your opponent was anyone other than me, you would already be dead." He can't give him an explanation but that the past him filled with anger and current him are all him.
Qinqiu ask him, “Was it because your seventeenth was a trial, that you had to turn my seventeenth into a trial too?”
Xielian says nothing and when QQ tells him he will never become like Xielian filled with hatred. Xielian laughs so hard and QQ is just angry at that point and starts yelling. During all this Huacheng is just serious. That's when HC changes him into a doll. HC tells XL take QQ with them.
Honestly, it's surprising because Xielian is pretty harsh and straight forward in the novel in this part.
