Comment on ChapterBlossoms of the White Night - Chapter 20

Shuraka is a bit of a manipulator. I don't know if this is an innate trait or if it stems from what Shuraka had to endure during the struggle for the throne.
(I'm not saying that this makes Shuraka a bad person, it's just his character trait.)
He ignores questions and topics that are uncomfortable for him, or even deceives them. He most likely does this for some good reason, but that doesn't make things any easier for those he manipulates.
Tei asks him point-blank: "Did you spend last night with one of your concubines?"
Shuraka replies: "My nights are meaningless without you....I was too busy to spend the night with you yesterday.... but henceforth.... Beloved.... I love you..."
He doesn't say, "No, I didn't spend last night with a concubine." He doesn't say what he was doing last night.
And this is not the first time that Shuraka has done this:
1)He tricked Tei into leaving Arnata.
(maybe this is how he wanted to protect Tei)
2)He didn't warn him of his arrival in Leracal.
(maybe he was protecting Tei's safety or was afraid that Tei would refuse to meet him.)

3)He announced that he was taking Tei, not the princess, only at a palace reception, in front of EVERYONE, not in private. He also pointed out that the union of Arnata and Leracal DEPENDED on this (see Chapter 10: The Web and the Butterfly).
He only announced that Tei was empress at the reception and again emphasized that Leracal's union with Arnata depended on his marriage with Tei. Thus, neither the king himself nor Tei could refuse.
(The day before, Shuraka was clearly afraid that Tei's feelings for him had changed, that Tei was now looking at him differently and that perhaps Shuraka was disgusting to him; and Shuraka had openly driven Tei into a position where he could not refuse)
4)In his confessions to Tei, he spoke of how Tei was the only one for him. But he chose not to mention the harem.
(maybe Shuraka was again afraid that Tei might refuse him after learning that Shuraka had enough women and men, and Tei had no need to be near him)
5)He ignores the harem issue and Tei's question about the night he spent with the concubine.
(maybe Shuraka is being tormented by fears again, or he considers it unimportant.)

Please, Shuraka's fans, don't hurt (or hit) me. I don't hate Shuraka!!!
Shuraka and Tei are both very stupid in their relationship right now. I like Shuraka, Tei, and the story!
I'm just enjoying reading and commenting.

True shuraka definitely uses emotional deflection instead of direct answers like he avoids the truth but replaces it with affection so tei stays instead of questioning him
it feels less like he’s naturally manipulative and more like it comes from survival and control from his past but it still hurts tei either way
@laraoiki And this complicates the problem. It's not enough to simply talk or ask questions. Because that won't work. He needs to somehow "hack" Shuraka.
@ItsNotOverYet  yeah 😭 talking alone won’t fix it if shuraka keeps dodging

tei will likely “hack” him by pulling away for real instead of chasing answers once shuraka feels like he’s actually losing tei he’ll break and start being honest because control stops working on someone who’s ready to leave

@laraoiki I thought, maybe, Tei pushing Shuraka away would be enough to make Shuraka lose his temper in next chapter, which would mean he'd lose control (and "filter") of what he's saying. And if Tei could control his emotions and words at least partially, then maybe he'd hear what he needed to hear and ask what he needed to know to understand what was going on.
Although it's likely that Shuraka will try to leave and start avoiding Tei again... Well, Tei will have to block his path and not let him out of the room 😅 If he wants to sulk, let him sulk right next to Tei .
@ItsNotOverYet yes and we need shuraka to change all those rules and stuff too he must take great leadership and follow his own steps and be a great husband theres no need for concubines like his father and so on he must break that cycle and live a peaceful life
@ItsNotOverYet

I really liked your analysis!! You have great critical thinking skills!!

I was thinking the same. We already  know that their relationship didn't start on a solid base ( Tei wasn't even supposed to be his bride, etc). So where are we going with that if Shukara keeps sort of lying by omission!

@ItsNotOverYet   yeah thats whats bothering me while im reading this 🥀 I don't understand why he cant be more straightforward with tei and talk but h dodges the questions (no hate btw i love the character but idk abt ts trait of him)
