The novel frames her ambition and greed as stemming from her MOTHER and FAMILY's pressure. Freya herself was not made to want to be a Queen, though she did grow to love Izek and it DID blind her, her reasoning and drive was framed as stemming from her family's ambition to be one of the strongest in the North. Lorenzo through becoming a Knight and swordsmanship, Freya through being a pa** to earn the Queen's title.
