I've read both of those and tbh, there's some fuc*** up sh** in those too. it just earns it more. I know jinx hasn't ended, but honestly by the end of BJ Alex it got a little too sappy for my tastes. I do count it among some of my favorites, though.
I do agree, though. Maybe this is a bit dark but I feel like experiencing real emotions just really levels up any experience. And characters being driven to the point of no return enough to want to attempt su*cide is a slightly heavy-handed, but poignant twist in any story. Even if someone doesn't experience much mental illness, everyone has experienced that feeling of it just being too hard to think about how to go on. Even if you never consider harming yourself, I feel like it's a very relatable perspective to just be so done with everything that you can't see away forward
