Hades kidnapped her to the underworld...By the time other gods/goddesses (mostly her mom) arrived to save her, Persephone had already eaten food from the underworld (i think it was 9 pomegranate seeds)- due to this, she has to spend 9 months of the year in the underworld (3 months of Spring on Earth).
