Long story short, Raphael's making tweaks to Rimuru's subordinates abilities, acting as a direct coach 2 some, like Zegion, or even holding some skills back, like Shion's, which Raph consideres a possible threat to Rimuru.
One could even say mad scientist dev style, constantly updating Rimuru's forces.
Does it ever expand on the fact 'skills' seem to actually be sentient beings, or is it just a mere macguffin kept superficial to allow author to tweak stuff as he pleases beside the meta jokes?
@TotallyAbsurd As i undestand it, the skills themselves are not sentient, it's the voice of the world u r reading, however...

There is an exeption within the divine class of skills, where under the right circumstances can gain sentience, in which case they are not skills anymore, but Manas.
Skills from the Virtue/Deadly Sin series can develop consicousness under certain circumstances and evolve into the actually ultimate form any skill can have, the Manas. Pretty sure not even Veldanava had one, tho I might be wrong. As far as I've read (volume 19) there're 3 Manas and one that almost became one, tho who's I won't say unless asked.
