Chase met his gaze, unwavering.
“He’s your child.”
Josh’s eyes widened. He stared at Chase, unable to speak. Chase, exhausted, let out a tired laugh at his reaction.
“…That’s all?”
Josh’s voice trembled. Chase didn’t answer—just kept that same faint smile. But somehow, Josh knew. This time, Chase was more sincere than he had ever been.
Josh couldn’t hold back anymore.
“He’s your child too.”

Chase frowned slightly, as if he hadn’t heard correctly.
Josh’s voice wavered, but he repeated, “Peter… he’s our child. Yours and mine.”

After a long pause, Chase finally spoke.
“How old is he?”
It was all he could manage through the flood of thoughts in his mind.
Josh swallowed, his lips trembling.
“When I was guarding you… your Rut came. You don’t remember.”
“Then you—” Chase hesitated, his voice tight. “You slept with me.”
Josh felt like a sinner awaiting judgment. His throat was dry as he watched Chase struggle to process it all. The silence stretched so long it felt like time had stopped.
Then, at last, Chase spoke.
“Did I… force you?”
“No! No!”
Josh immediately shook his head. Seeing the horror creeping into Chase’s face, he repeated himself, voice firm.
“I wanted to. I wanted you. I loved you… That’s why I was with you. There was nothing wrong with that.”
