The duke holds in a groan and quickly tries to remember his last conversation with Penelope. He remembers that they had a luncheon together and she wanted to go on an outing. He had told her he would help her even if she ran away. He thinks that if she was a person there should be a reflection and wonders who the child is in front of him. Yvonne had passed all the tests with her appearance being the same and the memories she had could only be known if you were the person. If it wasn't for Penelope, he would have immediately announced Yvonne's return.
He wonders when Penelope noticed it. His memories of the luncheon are hazy and he can't remember her face when she told him to be careful of Yvonne. His head is spinning and he's scared and hesitates. Yvonne continues talking about Paul and Leah snapping the duke's thoughts back to the present and he asks what she is talking about. She asks if there's something in his tea as he keeps staring at the mug but the duke tells her he has just realized he forgot something, clenching his fist under the table. As he tries to leave Yvonne stops him saying she remembers what she wants - she wants to go out. She claims to be worried about the orphans she used to look after in her village.The duke says he'll give her an escort as its dangerous outside but she refuses saying she's lived outside for most of her life so she'll be fine. The duke says he'll give her the carriage but she must be back before sundown.
