@dane I agree with your comments. To respond to "I don't get why people feel sorry for Adolf"...I will only say what is clear and basic. We are human. we make a lot of mistakes. We reap what we deserve and sometimes what we don't deserve. There are lots of people who love each other and can't get along maintaining a healthy relationship, so they separate and find happiness sharing their lives with other people. It doesn't mean there wasn't love. To maintain a relationship, love alone is not enough. In this case, I believe that Adolf always loved Lewis, otherwise he would not have become physically and mentally ill. He realized too late that relationships need to know how to maintain them and that life partners are not objects. However, I think it's still a sad situation, especially since it was all his fault. ivan hates adolf and the last time he saw him he looked at him "with pitiful eyes" ... empathy does these things. "ivan was the second option" ivan was not the second option and I think that was what hurt him the most. Until the end, Ivan was never an option for Lewis. Ivan was able to accompany Lewis until the end and showed that he was fine with it. It could have had a different ending, but I think this ending had a huge impact. It really makes you cry. It was the second time I read it and I still cried more than the first time

@pew pew A mistake is when you step on someone's foot. Ra** and physical abuse (of Troy as well) is not a mistake, it's a crime and not forgiveable. And unfortunately, a lot of people get away with it and don't get what they deserve in real life but even in this story. This piece of sh** seems healthy now, has a dog and gets to travel the world, while Lewis was never allowed to have these things because of him. How is that justice or getting what he deserves.
