@Ryip REAL oml early 2010's BL was p Fluffy in reaction to early 2000's bl/(manga in general) which was trying to divest itself of the notion that manga/comics was for children (esp in the west and w the advent of image sharing websites). So the 2010's had really adult themes/plots (Okane Ga Nai/My Sensitive Pornograph) which led to extremely fluffy plots (Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi/Junjou Romantica). Eventually Korean and Chinese artists developed their own stylings and followed the general trend of tamer plotlines but with the appeal of a different layout and cultural backgrounds (Cherry Blossoms After Winter/ Heesu in Class 2/19 Days). By 2020 publishers have started really focusing on popularity trends which is why BL seems oversaturated w sm toxic stories/abo/cinderella/reincarnation/regression stories.

@beefyqueefs Well I read straight romances but I also remember plenty of fluffy stories targetting adults rather than children (e.g.: Diamond life).

Kinda disappointing to see kids (children, teens and even young "adults") thinking "adult things" = "pawrny". Funny enough, one chapter of Beast complexe shades some light onto the fact many middleaged men and/now older are capable of imagining fluffly plots that can appeals to young women/girls.
