@H i s o k a it was never lk that. She really did love him as a son, but when he started to exhibit all that awful behavior to her kid and go on a trajectory that would have doomed them she turned against him. While she seemed lk a typical evil stepmom she wasn't. She never hurt him or did anything against him other then advocate for her son to become the heir and become cold to him.

@The girl whose a nerd I gotta agree with Hisoka on this one.  Although he was half joking and you might be right about everything you just said, good s** from your loving partner can really lower the "volume" on issues that would normally cause a person to flinch and react.  It's not a cure-all panacea but when it's done right it can be more effective than any other single variable in solving inter-family problems.
