@Shaunny Its because he is a player. His designation is "King of Ruin" and "Harbinger of the Apocalypse". Thus, he looks like a mass of black mist/smoke to everyone else, but his own hero units.

@Darknezz nah I just think the hero unit ascended with him and for reader peace of mind he appear normal when talking with her so we can see some expressions. Basically he/she/they are using the hero unit(aka Atou) as a reason to be able to give mc a funny/normal side and some expression.
