You know, people keep hating on Rudeus as if he's some lucky guy with multiple wives. All I see is a guy with a hellish life and him being with multiple women is secondary to the drama happening to him. It's not there to please the reader, it's how his father was so the son repeats the same behaviour. Also, what makes the manga most memorable is the trauma Rudeus goes through. I doubt anyone will forget that chapter where he finds his mother alive, sees her hug him and realise she's unresponsive and it was just his imagination. If this was a run of the mill harem manga we would get a happy ending, Rudy would'nt've lost his arm nor his father, let alone that scene with his mother. The whole endeavour was made pointless with his mothers condition. I just feel immense sorrow for the guy.

@Batou You've nailed it precisely, and personally, I think some people are intentionally overlooking the trauma because they want to whine about "another icky harem manga." Like Edna, in the comments below. Edna is clearly and demonstrably in the wrong but is either egotistically unwilling or too intellectually deficient to admit it, despite having it pointed out several times.
