@Lokilol that's exactly what it is in the novel, he's arrogant with a terrible upbringing. He's extremely emotionally repressed and doesn't understand how to process or identify what he feels. He makes her cry because that's all he knows and all he thinks he can get and he wants it for him and him alone. Very much an extreme version of a child pulling on their crush's pigtails for attention, he needs a therapist like yesterday.
