It gives him massive prestige to use in negotiations with other powers, and a trump card incase a critical problem like a dragon or invasion happens. @User.1099852  So if it was 20 years ago they'd likely still have sperm from sperm banks enough to impregnate a few years worth of women, plus losing almost all men would force society to swap work roles very fast, not every woman of age would instantly be trying for a kid. Reasonable assumption is the late teen girls here are the first kids of that effort, and are likely at least 25% smaller than previous generations. It'd be odd that the new kids born wouldn't be a 50/50 split unless there was a significant delay in stopping the virus so most new male babies died.
