@Valentin Otto Earlier it mentioned that penicillin works on gram-positive bacteria, as they work by breaking down the cell membrane. However, cholera is a gram-negative bacteria, which means penicillin won't work on it. There are some antibiotics that target gram-negative bacteria, but in this time period it would be extremely difficult to nearly impossible to make, much less mass produce.

It's one of my all-time favorite bl mangas. The story is sweet as well as kinky, but it still has an interesting plot even without the sm** and romance. It has over 100 chapters so far, and gets updated every few months. If you haven't already read it, I highly recommend you try it out.
